They're at the counter. Make the sale.

  • A pair of earrings.
  • A print.
  • A shirt.
  • Something from your booth.
  • Something you made this morning.
  • Something sitting right there on the table.

They're ready. Don't make paying the hard part.

  1. Open the Counter.
  2. Ring it up.
  3. Get paid.
  4. Keep moving.

Example: one order at a print stall.

The sale is happening now.

You're at:

  • A farmers market.
  • A pop-up.
  • A flea market.
  • An art fair.
  • A craft fair.
  • Your studio.
  • Your shop.
  • A table you set up for the afternoon.

Someone is standing there looking at what you're selling. Then they say the words you wanted to hear:

I'll take it. Two stickers, please. I'll take the shirt in medium.

Counter is for that moment.

Scan. Choose. Pay.

Put your Counter where the customer can reach it.

  • A QR code on the table.
  • A sign by the register.
  • A link on their phone.

They can see what's available, choose what they're buying and pay.

Or you can ring it up yourself.

However the sale starts, keep it moving.

Card? Great.

Take the payment through Stripe.

Much Obliged keeps track of what was sold and what Stripe actually confirmed.

No guessing because somebody reached a success screen.

No pretending a payment happened when it didn't.

Confirmed by Stripe means confirmed by Stripe.

Paid means paid.

Cash

Cash? That's a sale too.

People still pay cash. Especially at markets, fairs, booths, pop-ups and anywhere else people buy things face to face.

Take the cash. Record the sale.

Keep it in the same business history as the rest of your Counter activity.

But Much Obliged doesn't pretend Stripe saw something it didn't.

Recorded by you means recorded by you.

The record tells the truth.

“Paid by check.”

Paid somewhere else?

That happens too.

If the customer pays you using another method outside Much Obliged, record what actually happened.

Stripe-confirmed payments stay Stripe-confirmed. Seller-recorded payments stay seller-recorded.

How they paid matters. The sale still counts.

Example: three sales on the same Counter, each marked for how it was paid.

The regulars. And the one-offs.

Maybe you sell the same things all day.

Stickers. Prints. Shirts. Candles. Records. Plants.

Maybe the next sale isn't on the list.

Add a custom item and keep moving.

You're here to sell things. Not administer software.

Example: a print table's list. A custom item belongs to one order and never joins the list.

When the line starts moving, move with it.

Sometimes there's time to slow down. Sometimes three people are waiting.

Counter gives you two ways to work from the same setup.

Standard

Use the detail you want.

See the sale clearly.

Work at a normal pace.

Rush

Strip the moment down.

Ring it up.

Take the payment.

Get to the next customer.

Same Counter. Same records. Different pace.

The customer is ready. Keep the sale moving.

Example: the same order at a print stall, in Standard and in Rush.

Paid doesn't always mean handed over.

Someone can pay before you've actually put the item in their hands.

Counter keeps those two facts separate.

  1. Payment happened.
  2. Handoff happened.

They don't have to become the same button.

So if something is paid but still sitting behind the counter, you can see that. Then mark it done when the sale is actually finished.

Know what was paid. Know what was handed over.

Example: what the customer sees.

Your customer doesn't need to become our customer.

  • No Much Obliged account.
  • No app to download.
  • No platform they need to join before they're allowed to buy a postcard.

They're your customer. Not ours.

They buy from you. We stay out of the way.

Know what happened when the day is over.

You sold twelve stickers. Three prints. A shirt. Something custom.

Some people paid by card. Some paid cash. Maybe somebody paid another way.

Counter gives those sales somewhere to live after the moment has passed.

  • What sold.
  • How they paid.
  • What Stripe confirmed.
  • What you recorded.
  • What still needed handing over.

A busy day shouldn't turn into a guessing game later.

Your money doesn't take a detour through us.

When a customer pays through Much Obliged with Stripe, the payment goes through your connected Stripe account.

Much Obliged doesn't need to sit in the middle holding your money.

Much Obliged keeps the record. Stripe moves the money.

And when the customer paid cash or somewhere else, we say exactly that.

No fake verification. No mystery math. Just the record of what happened.

Private Sales or Counter?

Counter is for the sale happening in front of you.

At launch, a Counter sale can be up to $1,000.

For a sale you and the buyer already worked out — especially one that needs a deposit, balance, shipping, delivery or service workflow — use a Private Sale.

A counter that goes where you do.

Your business doesn't necessarily have a front door. That's fine.

Counter is for selling wherever the sale happens.

At the market. At the booth. At the pop-up. At the studio. Across the table. Wherever somebody is ready to buy.

Open the Counter. Make the sale.

What Counter is for.

  • Art and prints.
  • Clothes and merchandise.
  • Vintage and resale.
  • Furniture.
  • Crafts.
  • Plants.
  • Records.
  • Things you make.
  • Things you find.
  • Things you sell.

If they're ready to buy now, Counter is ready too.

What it isn't.

  • Counter isn’t a giant point-of-sale system.
  • It isn’t an accounting department.
  • It isn’t warehouse software.
  • It isn’t financing.
  • And it isn’t another marketplace trying to own your customers.

It's a straightforward tool for the part that matters:

Someone wants to buy something. Help them pay you.

Questions

Does my customer need a Much Obliged account?

No.

They don't need to create an account or download an app just to buy from you.

Can the customer order from a QR code?

Yes.

Counter can give customers a simple way to see what you're selling and start the purchase from their own phone.

Can I take card payments?

Yes.

Card payments through Much Obliged use Stripe.

Can I record cash?

Yes.

Cash sales are recorded as seller-reported payments rather than pretending Stripe processed them.

What if someone pays me another way?

You can record what happened.

Much Obliged keeps seller-recorded payment separate from Stripe-confirmed payment.

Can I sell something that isn't already on my regular list?

Yes, at the seller-operated Counter where supported.

A custom line can handle the one-off sale in front of you without turning Counter into a giant catalog system.

What's the difference between Standard and Rush?

They're two ways of operating the same Counter.

Standard gives you more room to work through the sale.

Rush is for when the line is moving and you want to keep the interaction fast.

Is payment the same as handing over the item?

No.

Counter keeps payment and handoff separate so a paid sale can still show that the item needs to be handed over.

Is there a transaction limit?

Counter is intended for immediate sales up to $1,000.

For larger or more involved transactions, Private Sales is the better fit.

Is Counter a marketplace?

No.

Much Obliged doesn't need to find the customer for you.

Counter is for making the sale when the customer is already there.

Does Much Obliged take a percentage of what I sell?

No.

$8 a month. 0% Much Obliged platform fee.

Stripe processing fees are separate.

What happens if I have a really good day?

Good.

We stay at $8.
